Heart Disease Causes
Millions of people around the world suffer with heart disease. Some people are more likely than others to get heart disease, while others have a lower chance of getting it. What are the causes of heart disease? Can you prevent it from occurring to you? As a rule, there are many people who are likely to get it. Heredity does have a say in heart disease.
When heart disease runs in a family, chances are likely that the other generations will end up with it if they don’t watch what they eat. It is important for these people to avoid foods that are high in cholesterol. They should refrain from drinking too much alcohol and they should not smoke. These are all factors that can decide if you will get heart disease.
Obesity is just one reason for heart disease. Along with this are diabetes, heredity, smoking, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and peripheral artery disease. Although many of these causes can be prevented, not all of them can. That is why if you have diabetes, peripheral artery disease or if heart disease runs in the family, you should refrain from the other causes.
That means you should not smoke cigars or cigarettes. If you do smoke it is time to quit. High cholesterol is something that can be avoided too. There are medications that will help with high cholesterol and making certain to avoid foods that are high in cholesterol is also important. Foods such as eggs, cheese, meats and fried foods should be avoided.
Although too much exercise can be hard on the heart, a certain amount of exercise is very good for your heart. You should start to walk or ride bike. There are a certain number of cardio exercises that are good for you. They are not difficult to do either. You can begin by walking short distances and increase the distance each week. Eventually you will be ready to take on more types of cardio exercises.
Although heart disease can be hereditary, it doesn’t have to be something that you have to live with. Remember to live a healthy lifestyle, especially if your family history shows heart disease. You may never have to face the problem but there is no point in pushing your luck either.
Some doctors believe that drinking alcohol in a limited amount can be good for the heart. It will improve the blood flow into the heart. They don’t believe you should begin drinking if you don’t already however. Drinking can be difficult on other organs such as the liver and kidneys. If you have diabetes, you are probably already watching your diet.
You need to be concerned about your weight when you have heart disease and diabetes. Take care to lose weight if you are overweight. Keep your weight at a good level and you can prevent further problems with your heart.
As you age there is the possibility of developing heart disease. Most people with heart disease are over 65 years old. That doesn’t mean you are going to suffer with heart disease when you get older.
